CITI Training Modules – Updates & Requirements
Key Changes (Effective July 1, 2025):
- Refresher Courses Reinstated:
- Trinity Health has reintroduced refresher modules.
- These are shorter and take half the time compared to the original full courses.
- Applies to those who have previously completed CITI training and are renewing.
- Unified Affiliation:
- All users must now affiliate under “Trinity Health Michigan Region”.
- Previous affiliations like St. Agnes (SAMC) or St. Alphonsus (SAWS) are deactivated.
- Users must update their CITI profile to reflect this change.
- Expiration & Renewal Cycles:
- Human Subjects Research (HSR) and Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR): every 4 years.
- Conflict of Interest (COI) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP): every 3 years.
- Shipping/Biosafety (IATA course): required only if applicable.
- New Module Addition (October 15, 2025):
- Updated International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) Good Clinical Practice content will be added.
- Users who haven’t started training yet are advised to wait until after October 15 to get the most current version.
Recommended Modules to Select
When prompted during CITI registration, residents should select:
- Biomedical Research
- Conflict of Interest (COI)
- Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
- Human Subjects Research (HSR)
Julie Bird also mentioned she has administrative access and will track completion for all residents and provide reports to coordinators.
